Places to visit in the area...

Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village

"Both a living historical village that displays the life of a 19th century port and town, and holder of Victoria's largest maritime shipwreck collection, it occupies a beautiful site, tumbling down the bluff towards Lady Bay. You can explore the village area that has over 40 buildings and vessels spread over 10 hectares. Explore at your own pace or take the fun (and educational) Sea Chest Challenge Trail, and all kids receive a bag of nibbles for the farm animals that they will discover as they explore."

Shipwrecked - Sound and Laser show

"Embark on the journey that resulted in one of Australia's most infamous maritime disasters when you experience SHIPWRECKED!, an enthralling journey of discovery, tragedy, illusion and intrigue.  SHIPWRECKED! is a state of the art sound and laser show. The complete theatrical experience magically brings to true life the tale of the Loch Ard, wrecked in 1878."

Katie went to see this show when she was younger with her family and thought it was a fantastic experience. See information on Loch Ard Gorge below to see where the two shipwrecked survivors were washed ashore.

Murnane Bay

This beach, not too far from the wedding location is one of Katie's family's favourites. Most years since she can remember, Katie and her relatives visit Murnane at Christmas time, even when the weather is less than favourable! Unfortunately, every time Katie and Matt have been together, the wind and the rain have prevailed. Nevertheless, the beach is secluded and scenic and they highly recommend a visit.

Everyone can enjoy the lovely walking tracks around the lakes, and the park features delightful picnic areas and sheltered BBQ facilities.

The Lake Pertobe precinct is also home to lawn tennis courts, mini golf, an athletics track and there's a nearby skateboard park.

Hopkins Falls are set in lush dairy country. Theymake an ideal picnic, fishing and walking spot, with gas BBQs and toilets provided.

Allansford Cheese World

Just across the road from the Warrnambool Cheese & Butter Factory, in the heart of a major dairy farming region, Cheese World brings together a museum, free cheese tastings, a licensed restaurant, and a wide selection of local and regional wines. The museum is a tribute to the local region's hard-working farming families. Some of Katie's great grandfather's equipment is featured in this museum.

Loch Ard Gorge

This is the site where two shipwreck survivors took refuge after the ship, The Loch Ard, ran aground. Offshore stacks, blowholes and the indescribable beauty of formations like the razorback and island arch make this precinct the one with the lot. Stairs allow visitors access to the beach and a pathway allows access to the eastern side of the gorge. There are numerous plaques and a small museum detailing the site's history.
